Updates on 2012 AEHC Meeting Plans for our 100 Year Celebration

December 10, 2011

From Kaye Green, President Elect and 2012 State Meeting Planning Committee Chairman

Following are some of the plans the Committee has made for our 2012 AEHC State Meeting  for our 100 Year Celebration.  There are quite a few changes from our usual schedule in past years, so I thought you might be interested in knowing some of these changes ahead of time.

In addition to our usual meeting area, Hall A of the Convention Center has been rented for Tuesday, June 5th.  There will be something for everyone.  Commercial booths, demonstrations of heritage skills, creative skills/crafts and sales.    If you or someone  you know would like a booth (only for the one day), please contact me or Phyllis Pipkin.   If you demonstrate your heritage or creative skill/craft, there will not be a charge.  You can still have a booth to sell items without demonstration but there will be a charge of $30.00.  There will also be musical entertainment during this time and for lunch you can either order sack lunches or go out for lunch.

Ruth Hall is in charge of table decorations. Yell County Extension Homemakers have graciously offered to make all the table decorations.  They will be unified and make a huge impact for the GALA!  All counties are being asked to send in $10.00 for this with their registration.

Letha Thronebury is in charge of the Silent Auction items which will be in Room 205.  Bring your donations Tuesday morning.

Barbara Boeh has planned a great Cultural Arts.  Each county is asked to bring a doll (15-22 inches tall – no Barbies) dressed in an American Period Costume during the  years from 1912 to 2012.  The doll does not have to be new.  Please attach a label with your county name and year of dress.  These will be delivered to Room 201 on Tuesday morning.  They will be for display only, it is not a competition.  You will pick up your doll on Wednesday afternoon.   You may want to use it for a prize or silent auction in your own county.

The Project Books will be on display in Room 201.  Come by and view them!

Jo Ann Carr has been working diligently on the Curtain Calls.  Display will be in Room 202.  Books with 100 crafts will be for sale.  Come by and check it out!  If your county has not given a craft with instructions please bring one to the March meeting at Ferndale.  Jo Ann’s info is106 Stone Drive, White Hall, AR 71602  (870-247-1875) (lcarr10606@aol.com).  You may want to get one to her sooner.

Mary Fisher and Terrie Jacobs have some great  How To and Education Classes planned for Wednesday morning and after lunch.  There will be seven of each.  These will be walk in classes and you do not have to register for them. (No tickets, yeah!).

The Board of Directors meeting will be Wednesday morning in the DeSoto room at the Austin Hotel.  Presidents will be in your seats by 8:30 AM so you can vote.  New officers will be elected!

The GALA:  Wednesday, June 6th at 5:00 PM there will be a reception in front of  Horner Hall with the GALA dinner following at 6:00 PM.  This is your time to dress up and shine!  County presidents and 50, 60 & 70+ year members will be recognized.

Thursday closing will include memorials (send a name and picture to Terrie Jacobs, 1019 Polk  6 , Wickes, AR 71973  or(grannajacobs@gmail.com).  Project book awards and installation of new officers will also be on Thursday and. of course, door prizes!

There will be a pre registration on our website (arextensionhomemakers.org) soon.  This is just to get a start on attendance.  You will have to fill out the regular registration and send it in along with your payment by the registration date of April 1.

If you have any questions, please contact me at 870-692-5695 or kayegreen@yahoo.com .

I am looking forward to seeing all of you in June!
